Pop-3 is the method of receiving email where a host collects and holds your email, and your email program gets it for you over the Internet. This is the most common method of receiving email on the net.

In this scenario, we (Alvars.Net) act as the host and hold all email addressed to you until your email client downloads it from us, to your computer. If you use Prodigy, AOL, Compuserve or any other standard ISP (Internet Service Provider) this is probably how you get your email now.

The address for all Pop-3 Email accounts will be like this:   yourname@alvars.net

Web Based  Email is when your email is held by a host on the internet (just like Pop-3 above).   However, unlike Pop-3, with Web Based Email you use your web browser to read your mail. Instead of downloading it to your computer first and then viewing it, with Web Based Email you view it over the Internet, right from the host computer.

In this scenario, we (alvars.zzn.com) are the host computer and you would use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator or the AOL browser to read your email right from our web pages.

The address for all Web Based Email accounts will be like this:   yourname@alvars.zzn.com

Email Forwarding  means that email sent to you at Alvars.Net is automatically forwarded to any account you wish.   For example, lets say your regular email account is Ghkj163@aol.com. With Email Forwarding you could have all email sent to yourname@alvars.net and it would then be automatically forwarded to your AOL account.

The advantage of a system like this is, if you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP) from AOL to Compuserve (or any other ISP) you will still be yourname@alvars.net and can change your account to have your email forwarded to your new ISP.

The address for all Forwarded Email accounts will be like this:   yourname@alvars.net
