Scott's Page

First, some old business...
My heritage may be showing but I used to run a BBS in Spokane WA. If you found your way here looking for Tomey's Basement BBS I apologize. I can't get Yahoo to remove my search entry.

Now on to new business...
Hey, Thanks for finding me and thanks for poking around. Go ahead and read, it's my introduction. A little wordy, but so am I!

About me. I'm interested in computers, cars, and whiskey. (not necessarily in that order) I made this web page to satisfy some sort of inner desire more than to provide any practical content to the Internet Community. (shame on me)

My single contribution (however meager) is my list of places to get files. You probably saw the link on the main page. I'm a file hound from way back so if you are too, then I encourage you to check out some of the links. I am constantly on the lookout for the Holy Grail of freeware. If you happen to know where it is please let me know.

I listed my interests in the first line to give you some sort of sense of who I am. I believe that if you know what I do then you may have gained a little insight into who I am.

I used to be interested in 'cars' but anymore I'm only interested in cars that run. I no longer take great pleasure in sitting in the front yard trying to figure out why I cant get my Camaro ('72, Z28, red, noisy) to burn the tires in third gear. Today I'm more likely to be elbow deep in some computer's guts trying to see how far I can over-clock a 486DX4 chip before she smokes. (oh, it's not very far, either.)

As I mentioned I used to run a BBS but now I just play (with the computer I mean). I like to think of it as 'learning' rather than playing, but that's what I do. My long term goal is to start my own computer related company. I think maybe an ISP but I don't really know. To this end I've got a Linux box up and running but there is still a lot left to learn. The worst part is that the more I learn the more I realize how much I still don't know.
Anyway, I'm using LILO to dual boot the same system into W95 (yeah I know, sacrilege) because I'm hardware poor. I'm sharing 600 megs or so between both OS's. As a matter of fact this entire web page is being built and put up w/ W95 and HomeSite on 1/2 of that same system.

I've built a few systems from scratch for friends and family but have not been too impressed with the job I did. They didn't seem to work as advertised. Not that they were bad, just not as fast as I expected. One of the first systems I built myself was for my own personal use and I've still got it. It's a workhorse system that I've used and abused for over 2 years now. (P133, 64mb, 7.3gig, V90, NIC, 17", 2vram) Of course I've changed it over time. Except for the CPU most of that is new. Putting a bunch of parts together and actually having a product at the end is very satisfying. So is trouble shooting broken systems. Unfortunately I've not had as much luck in that area as I would like, but I do ok. Some problems just seem to be unsolveable and unexplainable though.

I have a couple of motorcycles. I enjoy riding but wish I could get out more for fun, not just going to work. I'll ride in the cold, but not the rain. Down to 32F. One bike is a Honda CB750 and the other is a Yamaha DT350. I'll get pictures of them loaded someday. Neither bike is new but they are both in great shape for their age. I'm looking forward to a long road trip one of these summers. Since I'm in Southern IL it'll be through that part of the country.

I'm not too competetive nor am I a big athlete, my idea of strenuous is walking 18 holes. Golf is a relatively new sport for me (thanks dad!) but I enjoy it. This is my second year and I'm still not too good but I'm getting better.
A bad round is about 120.
I've never had a good round    :-)

I used to bowl a lot, but haven't for years now. I carried a good 160 average when I was in the league, with a personal best of 242 I shot when I was 20.

I like to read but only do so when I've time to kill. I spent over 6 months in the sandbox and that provided me a lot of time to read. I mostly like SciFi but will read westerns and mysteries if they catch my attention. I have nothing against putting down a bad book and not finishing it, just like I don't mind walking out of a movie theatre if I'm not enjoying the show.
It drives my wife crazy when I do that!

Still here? There's not much more. Those of just some of the things that I like to do. I have purposely left out things like being a husband, a dad, a son or a brother. To me those things go without saying. I'm very proud of my family and who we are. I enjoy the time I spend with family, and thinking about them. (like while I put up web pages...) But not to get maudlin...

Thanks for reading. There's a link at the bottom to shoot me an email if you found any misspellings. There should also be a link back to the main page, and if you're really adventurous try my fun page.
